HomeMade Granola Bars

Friday, April 2, 2010

I found this amazing recipe over at Little Birdie Secrets. I can wait to try it. Don't these granola bars look absolutely delicious? What a money saver. Looking forward to a nice healthy summer treat when I finish the HCG. Try it out and let me know how they are..

Granola Bars
2 c. oats
3/4 c. wheat germ*
3/4 c. sunflower seeds*
1 c. chopped nuts*
2/3 c. brown sugar
½ c. honey
4 T butter
2 tsp vanilla
½ tsp salt
8 oz dried fruit*

Toast oats, wheat germ, sunflower seeds, and nuts in the oven
Put brown sugar, honey, vanilla, butter, and salt into a saucepan and cook gently until butter and sugar are dissolved. Combine all ingredients and toss together in a large bowl to coat evenly. Press firmly into a parchment lined baking dish. Turn out onto a cutting board and cut when mostly cool. Wrap each bar in plastic wrap or waxed paper and store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

*many different combination of ingredients will work—I’ve used puffed brown rice and puffed millet instead of wheat germ, various nuts and seeds, mini chocolate chips, coconut and dried pineapple, cranberries and pecans, etc. Whatever you can think of! You just need to have about the same ratio of dry to wet ingredients. Also note: If you use mini chocolate chips as any of the ingredients then you need to just press them into the top of the granola mixture after it is on the pan and cooled a bit.

Weight Loss: HCG

I wouldn't normally put a plug for weight loss on a bargain blog. But for this link it is the best deal short of mixing it yourself out there. In case you haven't heard about the HCG diet it is awesome and works so well. You have to be strict with your diet but when you can lose 10+ in a month it is soooo worth it. Anyway, lots of places are selling it with all these strings attached. The DIY one is the best bang for your buck if you decided to do it. The link is on a little button on the right. I have been researching it for months and this is where to purchase from. I have a sister in law who actually mixes it herself making it cheaper but having to get needles to get it out of the vials freaks me out. I would rather pay a bit more with it premixed. It is a great way to melt away all the 'excess' curves we tend to get. What is awesome is where it melts from hips, butt, thighs, lower back. All the places women store fat. Good ole pregnancy hormone is great at helping us shed that weight, who would have thunk it.

I understand that is it kind of a cheaters way out. All of my pants were just a little too tight and I can't afford to purchase a new wardrobe. The cost of the DIY HCG product is equivalent to a pair of pants, $75 or even cheaper than a lot of pairs. It allows you to re-set your body to a new healthy way of eating.

Currently I am on day 11 and am down 7lbs. I am hoping when I am done by day 40 at the end of April I will be swimsuit ready.

If you're ready to lose weight today, click on the link below. You will not regret it.

Family Chores??

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Do you have chores for your children? Do they actually do them? We have a few set chores for our kids. They are still young but have things such as making beds, brushing teeth, cleaning rooms/toys. The 5 year old now has to feed the dog as well. But sometimes these simple chores do not get done. I can across a great website, My Job Chart, that will have their daily chores on there for them and they even have their own log in so that you know they did it. You assign points to each chore and when and also have rewards. Rewards are things you want to set up, dinner out, making cookies, time with mom or dad. You can even set something bigger like, camping, Disneyland or anything of that nature. When they reach the set point level for that reward they can cash in their points. What a great concept and idea.

It is free to join and just might help get your family back on track this new year. Be sure to check it out. myjobchart.com
